Diffractive Optical Elements (or DOEs) work in the principles of light diffraction to modulate the phase or the amplitude of the incident light. Their main applications are laser beam shaping and beam splitting. DOEs usually have feature sizes on the order of the working wavelength. Therefore they must be manufactured with high precision nano fabrication technologies, such as traditional semiconductor chip manufacturing process, nano-imprinting, and nano-injection molding process. Depending on different fabrication technologies, DOEs can be fabricated on glass or plastic substrates. They can be even etched on the surface of the traditional optical lens to form a refractive and diffractive hybrid optical element. Binary phase DOEs are most common while multi-level phase DOEs are required if high diffraction efficiency is needed.

UNT can custom design DOEs to meet most challenging customer's requirement. We use in-house developed DOE design software as well as commercial DOE design software to achieve high efficiency DOE design. Our experienced nano fabrication team can manufacture DOEs with both nano-imprinting and nano-injection molding process on both glass and plastic substrates.
